I'm interested in adding a pug to our family, how much is one of your Pug Puppies?
While I'm not in the market to disclose the pricing of my Pugs over the Internet and without meeting the prospective
buyer, I can tell you that the price of one of my puppies, depends on several different thing.
1. The Parents, if the parents are of champion lines.
2. If the parents are champions.
3. If the puppy is being placed as a Pet Companion or Show Quality.
Etc, etc.
What is the difference between, Pet Quality and Show Quality?
This depends on who you adopt your puppy from. If you are adopting your puppy from a Show breeder, there is not
much of a difference. The difference between the two is personal preference.
Example: A show breeder, might want a little more nose roll, on her show pug or a little more Cobby of a body,
shorter back, angulation, less guard hairs, etc. The only difference is personal preference.
What is the difference between Limited Registration and Full Registration?
Limited registration helps me as the breeder, protect my lines from careless breeding. If your puppy comes with limited
registration, the bitch or dog, is not to be bred. If the dog is bred, the puppies would not be able to be registered with
the AKC, therefore any puppies produced out of this bitch or dog would have no family history or authenticity of it's
breed.
Full registration, allows the buyer to participate in AKC events, Show in AKC Confirmation and compete for their
Championship title and breed to improve the standard.
With Limited Registration, can my pug compete in Agility?
Yes, Agility competition does not require full registration or intact dogs.
I would like to add a pet companion to my family, do you place pet companions?
Although I breed for myself, looking for my next generation to show, I can not keep every puppy out of my litters.
After my puppies are evaluated, I decide which I will be keeping and which I will place. Those that I do not keep, I will
place in companion homes.
I have a strong interest in showing my puppy in AKC events, can I get a Show Quality Puppy?
If you are seriously interested in Showing Pugs, I can't see why not?
What are your stipulations or a Show Quality Puppy?
Any puppy I place, is on a contract, A Show Quality Pug's contract is slightly different.
The contract states, you can not have the puppy spayed/neutered, you MUST show the puppy in AKC events to
complete his or her Championships, BEFORE breeding.
All my Show Puppies are sold on a Co-Ownership. Once you bitch or dog has completed his or her championship,
and all requirements are met, I sign full registration over to you.
I've never shown before, would you be willing to Mentor me throughout my puppies show career?
Absolutely, I give 100% full interested in any puppy I place for show, even after I sign off on the papers.
What happens if I purchase a Show Puppy from you and he or she does not turn out to be of Show quality?
There is no guarantee any puppy will be of show quality, I call them Show PROSPECTS. This is why I have my
puppies evaluated first and do not place them in their show homes till after they are 4 months or older. If the Show
Prospect is unable to show, due to lack of interest, or quality of appearance, I will replace the puppy with another
Show Prospect.
This is why, I will only place a show prospect puppy after 16 weeks of age. This gives me time to work with the puppy
for the show ring and peek their interest while I watch their development for the ring.
What type of health guarantee do I get with my puppy?
I give all my puppies the same guarantee, which is Life Time for any life threatening genetic health issues. The
guarantee is written out in all my contracts.
What if down the road, I can not keep my puppy, or later in years I need to give my puppy up?
My contract states, if you can not keep your puppy, for any reason, i take the puppy back no questions asked. Too many
unwanted pets are in the animal shelters and rescues, I do not want my puppies to add to the over population of these
facilities. It does not matter if it is weeks after you pick up your puppy or years later. I know life holds us no
guarantees, and sometimes the unforeseen happens, all the puppies I place must come back to me if you are unable to
keep your pet.
Your puppies are a little to much for me, will you come down on your price?
Absolutely NOT. My puppies are part of my family, I expect my puppies to go to homes, that feel the same towards
their pets as I do. Companion or Show puppies, they are still a family pet.
We don't decide on which children we keep due to the amount of money it will cost, so why would someone do the
same with their family pets.
I see pug puppies in my local paper for $600, some as low as $300, what make your puppies worth so much
more?
There is a major difference when buying from a reputable breeder as apposed to a BYB (back yard breeder). A BYB
puts any two pugs together, and sometimes other breeds just to create a litter of puppies for some extra spare cash,
some even live off the puppies they produce. You get No guarantee, or if you're lucky, you will give you a 1 yr or 2 yr.
They do not show their puppies, their puppies do not meet akc standards. They do not bred to improve the breed.
Most of these puppies end up costing you much, much more in the long run in MEDICAL bills.
Just remember, you get what you pay for.
Any well respected breeder will give you from 5 yrs to Life Time guarantee, because, we know, most genetic health
issues do not arise till after the puppy reaches 2 yrs old.
Then there is testing, Reproductive Specialist, Prenatal Care, Sonogram's, X-Rays and the possibility of C-Sections.
This all cost money, not to mention Pugs do not deliver their puppies on their own. If they do whelp their litters freely
without the need of a C-Section, the breeder is the one to deliver the litter, clean the puppies, get them to take their
first breath, cut the umbilical cord, round the clock puppy watch, making sure they nurse every two hours. I could go
on and on, but I'll spare you the dramatics. I will add, we get very little sleep, we learn to nap in between feedings.
After the puppies are born, they must be taken in for their first wellness checkup within the first 48 hours, on day 3
each puppy is taken back to the vet to have their dew claws removed.
Shots, thats another expense. Try adding this up on pen and paper, your head will spin.
If it is so expensive, to you as the breeder, why do you do it?
I do this because, I love the breed, my intentions are to add to the improvement of AKC Standards. This is my hobby
and an expensive one at that, this also gives me the opportunity to produce something I can be proud to take in the
show ring as something I've produced.
Do you own and breed any other breed?
Pug are my heart and sole, I only own Pugs, I do not have other breeds, nor do I breed any other breeds.
Do you ever have available or breed White Pugs or Brindle ?
NO, there is no such color in the Pug Breed Standards. Go to AKC.ORG to see the color standards, pugs come two
Colors, Fawn and Black ONLY, however there are several shades of fawn. (cream fawn, apricot fawn, etc.) White Pugs
are a mixture of different breeds, although, I do not know all the different mixtures of breeds, I do know that the Pug
like dog, "White" is a mixture of a white French Bull dog and a Pug. The lighter litter-mates, that look more like the
Pug breed, are bred until the black pigment is washed out, to give the appearance of a white pug and sold for $2000
and up. In plain English, those that buy these Pug like white dogs are paying big dollars for a Mutt, a mixed breed
dog.
The same applies to the Brindle Pugs, only the brindle like Pugs are bred to Brindle Boston Terriers. These Brindle
Like Pugs are also Mixed, Mutts with big dollar tags attached to them. You will find many of these mixed breed dogs
in your local shelter or rescue groups.
Why do they advertise these Brindle and White Pugs as being registered with AKC?
If you look at the registration of these Brindle and White Pugs, you will see under the color it will say, FAWN or
BLACK. AKC does not recognize any other colors, therefore, the registration papers are not valid and if AKC find
out a any of these Brindle or Whites are registered with an improper color, their registration papers would be revoked.
These two colors, can not be shown in any AKC Confirmation Shows.
I'm only interested in buying a Pet, does the registration papers for the Brindle or White Pug matter?
No the registration papers doesn't matter, but, if thats what you're looking for is the Brindle or White like Pugs, why
don't you just go to your local Pug Rescue? Why would you pay thousands of dollars for a Mixed breed when you can
donate $300 -$400 to your local pug rescue and get the same Brindle or White Pug that is in dying need of a loving
companion home.
